Our New Dragonfly Katana keeps all the attributes of the original version that made this sword great, but we've improved the furniture by adding more detail to bring out the beauty and message of this piece. Maintaining the original distinctive style, with a thinner and lighter blade that is individually hand forged and folded, our new katana features the blending of T-10 and 1055 steel. This new folded steel combination presents striking contrast between the layers and when polished reveals a highly visible hada.
The Dragonfly held a special significance to the Samurai. Their seemingly tireless movement reflected the Samurai’s desire to give tireless service to his feudal Lord. The fittings are beautifully antiqued duplicating the look of old iron. The new tsuba design is made in iron with a copper inlaid dragonfly, which contrasts beautifully against the weathered looking iron. The authenticity and craftsmanship behind these fittings make these some of the best furniture upgrades we have ever offered.
The dark brown silk ito is set off by the black same making this a unique offering. The lower shinogi and the scant hira-niku make this blade lighter and faster, and gives it less resistance when cutting soft targets. The tsuka has the slight “waisting”, ryugo, that is popular with many who study Japanese sword arts.
