These naturally mined polishing stones come from the mountainous Narutaki District of north of Kyoto. Miners for over 1200 years have quarried these stone called Aoto and Awase Toishi. These stones being naturual are not perfectly uniform and vary slightly in grit. This Ao-to Stone runs 2000-3000 grit.
