SG0041 Through Hardened 1000 layer Folded Steel blade with double cosmetic hamon in blue.
This durable cutter is a simple and cost effective design. The 28" blade with 10" tsuka has a wonderfully elegant design with what is often called a "Musashi" tsuba as it was a design Musashi himself created. The fuchi kashira are a typical Higo style. This is an elegant sword built for performance as well. The steel is through hardened 1000 layer steel and will be a tough blade for training. The sword also has a bo-hi to lighten the blade for long training sessions. Make no mistake, even though the hamon is cosmetic, the hada (folded steel grain) is very real, and this blade is sharp and tough. This is a "real" sword at an amazing price. The tsukaito and sageo are brown and the saya is a simple black gloss.
Like all swords in this line, the dimensions are fairly similar. Nagasa of around 28". Height at the machi (Motohaba) of 31mm with a motokasane (thickness) of 7.5mm. The blades taper nicely down to about 23mm (sakihaba) and 5mm (sakikasane, or thickness at the line that starts the tip). All blades have about a 5/8" even sori (curvature). And each sword weighs about 2.25 pounds outside of the saya depending on the fittings and whether the sword has a bo-hi.
